The vineyard is established on the first hill of Saint-Émilion, half a kilometre away from the village. Coutet’s closest neighbours are all prestigious châteaux.

THE HISTORY
Château Coutet is one of the few wineries in Bordeaux which has been owned by the David Beaulieu family for more than 400 years – since 1601 for 14 generations.
Today, 3 generations of the David-Beaulieu family are currently living on the property. Château Coutet is still run by Alain, manager and winemaker, and his brother Xavier.
THE TERRIOR
Its vines have always been grown with the higher respect of the terroir and nature. A quarter of the 16 hectares is not used for vine growing; instead, wildlife is given free rein to develop in parks, groves and gardens. This is aimed to create a balance between vine pests and their own predators, and thus make up for the non-use of chemical products, as a result of which it obtained the organic certification in 2012.
The density of plantation is about 6,000 vines/ha. The vine population is made up of 60% merlot, 30% bouchet (cabernet franc), 5% cabernet sauvignon and, as a touch of originality, 5% pressac (local malbec).
The vines are 38 years old on average.
