Domaine Jacques Cacheux
The origins of the Cacheux estate started in Vosne-Romanée by the early 1900s’. Jacques Cacheux, 3rd generation of the family, transitioned the estate into producing and bottling their own wines from grape growers in the 1950s’. After he retired in 1994, his son Patrice took over as the 4th generation working at the estate.
7 hectares spreads over in 11 appellations with prime holdings in the Grand cru of Echezeaux and some beautiful Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru sites. Patrice is also one of the three owners of the Croix Rameau, the tiny 1er Cru (0.60ha) that is just shy of being included in La Romanée St Vivant Grand Cru.
Patrice has made changes in the vineyard and the cellar including moving towards biodynamic agriculture by abstaining from herbicides, insecticides or anti-rot applications. In the cellar the grapes are completely de-stemmed and crushed with a seven-day cold maceration before natural yeasts initiate the primary fermentation. The wines are then matured in oak, 100% new in the Premiers and Grand Crus, and are then bottled without any filtering or fining. Pascal Cacheux produces elegant, silky wines that, whilst eminently approachable when young, have the ability to age gracefully as well.
