Domaine Testut
Domaine Testut
Since 1998, Cyril Testut has taken over the family estate, created by his father Philippe Testut in 1967 , himself at the origin of “Château Grenouille”.
The Domaine, as well as the vines, are located in the historic heart of the vineyard traditionally defined by the Cistercian monks. The vines of Domaine Testut in the Chablis appellation are on average over 50 years old and over 60 years old for the Premiers Crus and our Grand Cru. Most of the vineyard comes from Massale selection, which allows the estate to perfectly control its production.
History
The beginnings
Philippe Testut was the first of the family to want to be a winegrower. “It was his passion,” says Cyril. Philippe's first harvest took place in 1963 at Domaine Long-Depaquit.
Purchase of Vines
From 1966 to 1969, Philippe bought land and vines in Chablis then in 1975, Philippe invested in Lirac, a classified designation of the Côtes du Rhone where he vinified until 1990. Returning to Chablis at the end of the 80s, he devoted himself solely to wines. Chablis wines. His son Cyril, after a school in viti-oenology at the Lycée de Beaune began on the farm in 1990.
Development
Towards the end of the 90s, Cyril rapidly developed bottle production on the French market and especially for export. The geographical location and the age of our vines allow us today to produce ripe and balanced grapes. The harvest is manual on all of our bottle production, we work on the deep expression of our terroirs and on long aging to obtain fine and elegant wines.
Brand’s Highlights:
All Premier Cru and Grand Cru are hand-harvested (while 85% of Chablis today is machine picked)
Very late harvest to obtain the most ripe fruits
