Les Hauts de Smith
2nd wine of the renonwed Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte, which has more than 800 years of history in Bordeaux. For many years it was owned by the Bordeaux négociant Eschenauer - in 1990 it was bought by former Olympic skiing champion, Daniel Cathiard. He cut down on the amount of chemicals and herbicides used in the vineyards, and fully modernised the winemaking facilities. The proportion of new oak barrels used in the maturation process was increased and a trio of eminent oenologists (including the ubiquitous Michel Rolland) were hired as consultants.
Made from a blend of wines from Château Smith Haut Lafitte, Les Hauts de Smith are fermented and aged with just as much care as the Grand Vin. From the vineyard to the cellar, exactly the same winemaking techniques are used.
Organic agriculture
Being interested in nature entails considering the world with humility. It is about harvesting the best fruit without depleting the soil, and adopting a long-term, sustainable approach.
Over the past thirty years, we have honed our own Bio-Precision philosophy with the aim of combining traditional and innovative techniques in the vineyard and cellar.
Our complex wines are a reflection of our precious terroir, and our increasing commitments.
We are now certified organic and our wines have gained greater purity and intensity. We can realistically say that we stand in the heart of nature, and we take all possible measures to preserve it.
